Name: Samsara Type: Biodynamic Red Wine Vintage: 2013 Winery: Bodega Samsara Wines Region: D.O Sierra de Malaga, Serranía de Ronda Variety: 100% Petit Verdot Alcohol: 14.5% Total Production: 3000 bottles, including 1000 allocated for exports. Elaboration: Wine both grown and made biodynamically. 10 months of ageing in barrels of French and Hungarian oak. It is a single vineyard wine, so it comes from a specific (and special) vineyard at the elevation of 800m above sea level. The soil is clay, but it is only 50 cm deep with a massive sandstone laying beneath. The plants, therefore, have to break their stone with their roots to reach nutrients. This gives Samsara wines the typical obvious mineral notes. The harvest time is 20th-25th October. Temperatures in Ronda are quite low by that time so the ripening of the grape is rather slow similar to "slow cooking. The grapes are hand picked at night time.
