Friendly Ronda Tasting in SG!

A casual, and friendly, wine tasting of Ronda Wines hosted by Nicolas Laurent on Saturday 11th February. Thank you guys! We hope you enjoyed Ronda!

Here are the tasting notes made ba Nicolas.

Bodega Kieninger Maxx 2013

$57.9 - 14.5% - Tintilla de Rota (native grape of Andalusia, sometimes used in Sherry) & Garnacha - 1,174 bottles - Biodynamic wine - Carbonic maceration, aged 13 months in French oak casks - Austrian winemaker - 93 Points Gia Penin 2016

The first nose is warm, fruity with aromas of prune, and rather powerful. Then with some breathing in the glass it becomes nicer and more charming, with nicely fruity aromas (cherry this time) but still with a high level of volatile alcohol. On the palate the attack is powerful attack but with a soft touch, and the tanins appear only on the mid-palate and the finish.

F. Schatz Finca Sanguijuela 2008

$64.9 - 13.5% - 26% Tempranillo, 26% Syrah, 24% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon - Organic and biodynamic wine - Homegrown family vineyard of 3 hectares - Aged 15 months on natural fine lees in French and American oak barrels - German winemaker

The first nose offers a very nice bouquet, with good fruits and a hint of smoke. The second nose is lighter with a nice fruit, and also finer and more delicate. The palate is nice and pleasing with leather aromas. One can definitely recognise the Tempranillo, and maybe the Syrah as well, with some spiciness. This wine drinks well, and offers more fruit and lightness than the previous one.

Chinchilla Doble Doce 2010

$56.9 - 15% - 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot - Natural wine - Aged at least 12 months in medium-toasted French oak casks - The World's Best Cabernet Sauvignon at CIDC 2016 Paris.

The nose is rather monolithic and discreet, it shows fruity aromas and alcohol, and is not much interesting overall. The palate is very nice, smooth, powerful, and with a strong and hot finish.

Descalzos Viejos DV Aires 2009

$75.9 - 15% - Petit Verdot & Garnacha - 3,920 bottles - Natural wine - Aged 16 months in French oak barrels

The nose is very nice, floral and with orange zest aromas. The palate is also very nice, very soft; the finish is not so long but the wine is easy going, with well balanced tanins in the mid palate and a good fruit. This is a wine to drink, and my favourite of the whole selection.

Vetas Seleccion 2009

$78.9 - 14% - 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Cabernet Franc, 20% Petit Verdot - 1,346 bottles - Organic wine - Aged 20 months in French oak casks, then 48 months in bottles in the cellar - The winemaker is the wine guru of Ronda, thanks to his role as a pioneer in the region, and because he shares in.

The nose offers very dark aromas (black berry, blueberry, prune) while the mouthfeel is soft, deep, with a long finish. The wine is smooth, round and pleasing but still with a good depth. This is my second favourite wine of the afternoon.

Pasos Largos 2008

$73.9 - 14.5% - Merlot, Syrah, Garnacha, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc & Petit Verdot - 6,700 bottles - Aged 12 months in French oak barrels

At this point in time I barely took notes anymore but I still remember a nice wine, soft and well rounded, with a good body and volume.
